My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Respecting the clients' wishes and validating their experience. It's important to raise awareness of authentic resources and ongoing areas of concerns. Additionally, being a pro-choice therapist ensures that if someone is coming into therapy for various circumstances, then no bias or judgement will be held against them for whatever decision they choose. Intersecting identities get overlooked often and having an appropriate space to be culturally compentent is important.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Autonomy is incredibly important; people should have the ability to make a choice that will impact them. Additionally, there are many factors to consider when making decisions. People deserve to make a choice regarding their own bodies and future. Having an increase in research and awareness about reproductive aspects would be beneficial in that people are able to have safe procedures and be able to have access to resources as needed. Removing the safety net for a reproductive choice is harmful in multiple ways. Body autonomy is also crucial in having people feel safe and connect within their own bodies - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
