My Pro-Choice Perspective

What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means creating a space where clients can openly process their reproductive experiences—whether that includes abortion, pregnancy, infertility, loss, or parenting—without shame or judgment.

It means centering the client’s autonomy, values, and lived experience, while providing compassionate, evidence-based support through complex and often emotionally charged decisions.

As a pro-choice therapist, I am committed to:

Supporting clients in making informed decisions that are right for them
Recognizing the impact of systemic, cultural, and societal factors on reproductive experiences
Providing affirming care that respects bodily autonomy and personal agency
Holding space for the full range of emotions that can accompany reproductive journeys

Ultimately, it means showing up with empathy, clinical skill, and respect—trusting that clients are the experts of their own lives.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and body autonomy are foundational to mental health, dignity, and overall well-being. As a therapist specializing in perinatal and reproductive mental health, I see firsthand how the ability—or inability—to make informed, supported decisions about one’s body can deeply impact emotional health, identity, and safety.

Clients deserve space to explore their experiences without judgment, coercion, or fear. When individuals are empowered to make choices that align with their values, circumstances, and health, it supports not only their psychological well-being but also their capacity for healing, attachment, and self-trust.

Protecting reproductive freedom is essential to providing ethical, client-centered care that honors each person’s lived experience and autonomy.
