My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being pro-choice means I do not have a voice or say in what the person who I'm working with does with their body or their life. My role is as a safe, non-judgemental person who will help explore questions, reactions, emotions, values, and options to help my client make the decision that best serves them, and to help them cope with any effects or impacts that come from that choice. There is not a one-size fits all right or wrong answer, as each person has a unique life story and nuance to what direction they choose to move in.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
It's a basic human right to be able to decide what happens to your body. Stripping basic human rights has detrimental effects not just on the individual, but on our society as a whole and on future generations.
