My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist, to me, means being supportive of
my patient’s personal decisions and understanding the nuances of these decisions.
It means standing for reproductive justice, acknowledging the impact and implications
of systemic issues and working against that oppression.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and body autonomy is a foundational value of my practice.
Many of my patients have opted for abortions in the past and/or had to terminate for medical reasons. As new or expectant parents, some have utilized fertility methods such as IUI or IVF to become pregnant, a practice which, like abortion, is currently under attack. I stand in solidarity with my patients and everyone that face these difficult decisions, to have the ability to do what is right for themselves and their families.
