My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a queer, non-binary immigrant many of my own identities are marginalized. As a result, I deeply resonate with inclusivity, community, and am committed to providing care for people who have historically been excluded by therapists. Being a pro-choice therapist means honoring my client and their needs as well as putting their desires at the center of our work together, whatever they may be.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Self-awareness of choice and personal embodiment is the foundation of mental health and holistic well-being. Autonomy and self-compassion are the things that I see my clients struggle with the most, especially those with a history of trauma. Comfort, privacy and agency should be paramount in all of healthcare, not just in the therapy room and it saddens and disappoints me at how often, in this country, that is not the case for patients, particularly those from historically marginalized communities.
