My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a pro-choice therapist, I recognize, advocate for and celebrate each person's individual right to bodily, cognitive and emotional autonomy. This not only means supporting and resourcing access to safe abortions, it means recognizing the myriad choices available to folks and non-judgmentally and empathetically engaging in discussion about those choices clinically. As a pro-choice therapist, I support your right to have or not have any kind of family that is right for you, to live as exactly who you are and to feel the feelings you're experiencing without censure.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I am fortunate enough to have been parented by people who have done their own transformational, generational change work. As such, bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive freedom are life-long values I've held. After becoming a mother myself however, my views were only reinforced and intensified. Being a parent can be a wonderful, transformational experience. It also... can not. These values of reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are also supported by my personal faith (it's mine, it's cool if it's not yours).
