My Pro-Choice Perspective

What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
I support each person's rights and abilities to make the best reproductive choices for themselves, even in the face of political limitations. I welcome all emotions around abortion and reproductive choice in my clinical practice, and advocate for reproductive justice with my political activism. I want clients to know they can show up with their own values and experiences, and have those honored in the therapy environment.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As someone who grew up in fundamentalist religion, I know how hard it can be to reclaim bodily autonomy and get accurate information about reproductive freedom. Trauma around sex, reproduction decisions, and experiences of anti-choice abuse are pervasive, and I want to be a part of empowering people to take personal and political actions of autonomy, care, and healing. Therapy often involves understanding ourselves and our communities, and learning how to live in well in the face of difficult circumstances, and reproductive freedom and body autonomy are intertwined with these goals.
