My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a pro-choice therapist, my job is to help clients figure out their own needs, wants and feelings. It is important to identify external values and judgments and help clients make their own decisions about which, if any, of these external judgments they choose to accept. My job is not to impose my own opinions on my clients and hopefully, to help ensure that their decisions are truly their own.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I think bodily autonomy should be important to everyone. Beginning at the youngest ages, children should be encouraged to value and respect their bodies, and to have their bodies respected by others. Reproductive freedom is one extremely important aspect of body autonomy, but must exist within a broader context of individuals having the right to control what happens to them and their bodies.
