My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapists means giving the client the utmost respect for their agency and autonomy. It means guaranteeing positive, unconditional regard for the people I work with and their reproductive choices and control of their body. It means advocating for them and their agency both in the therapy room and outside of the room politically and personally.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy is necessary for justice and equality. The right to control over one's body has been weaponized as a way to control marginalized communities and people who can conceive throughout history. To truly support and be an ally to marginalized communities and histories, embracing everyone's right to their bodies and reproductive freedoms must be included. This cannot be excluded from therapy work because part of the work is equally supporting and acting as an ally to my clients.
