My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
To me, being a pro-choice therapist means honoring all reproductive choices and paths, without judgment, stigma, or assumptions. Just like I would with any other topic explored in therapy, my aim when it comes to abortions and reproductive experiences is to listen, seek to understand, and support in any and all healing. Being pro-choice means holding space for all emotions that come up related to abortions and reproduction—relief, sadness, grief, shame, guilt, joy, etc. There is no wrong way to experience abortions or other reproductive decisions. What’s most important to me is YOUR experience. I am here to walk alongside you through that!
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Our reproductive journeys are incredibly personal and shape our lives in such a deep way. To have that interfered with in any way is an injustice. As a therapist, social worker, reproductive freedom advocate, person of faith, and human being, I believe that we all know what we need for our own bodies and journeys. This sense of knowing must be honored and supported without exception.
