My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
A pro-choice therapist, to me, is a therapist who first and foremost respects abortion as a social good, a resource for anyone who may need it, for any number of reasons. A pro-choice therapist understands the abortion landscape at least in the US if not globally, and is competent in talking through feelings about abortion in an informed and affirmative way. A pro-choice therapist can empathize with those who have or consider abortion, and are committed to supporting their clients' bodily autonomy.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I have been committed to a career in repro for the last 12 years. I feel that everyone's liberation is interconnected, and at any point a person who can become pregnant may need an abortion. I believe in bodily autonomy as both a human right and a social work value (self-determination), and I feel that the person who is alive and on this earth takes priority.
