My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Everyone who sits in front of me runs their life. Not me, not doctors, not psychiatrists, politicians, faith leaders, or legislators. All can take advice or sound care from these providers, but individuals have the last say. Being a pro-choice therapist means practicing non-carceral(ly) and centering abolitionist belief systems across all choices regarding autonomy, bodily rights, and any life assessments.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and autonomy are crucial as that is the foundation for creating a life based on freedom and free will. These experiences are a necessity and life is not life without these rights. Additionally, these rights are under attack, especially for those in southern states, rural areas, and those multiply marginalized and that cannot continue further as it leads to mental health challenges, shame, stigma, and suicidal ideation.
