My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means centering the experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and values of the person in front of me in that moment--no matter how messy or contradictory those things might be. I not only am a pro-choice therapist, but a researcher, advocate, and educator, too! I am also happy to work with clients around other family-building and reproductive topics.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Our mental health suffers when we are seeking an abortion but cannot access one. Our mental health also suffers in the face of abortion stigma--being told or believing that we are bad for having had abortions. As a psychologist, it is my role and goal to help people flourish when it comes to their mental health. This is not possible in a world where abortions are inaccessible and stigmatized.
