My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
To me, being a pro-choice therapist means that I will support my clients' autonomy and right to choose what they want their lives to look like. My role is to offer support to my clients as they navigate their lives as they see fit. Being a pro-choice therapist also means advocating for my clients by sharing resources when applicable, and participating in directories (such as this one!) and organizations that support body autonomy in any way that I can.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and body autonomy are important concepts to me because I firmly believe that all humans are entitled to make choices for themselves. Each person is the expert on their own life and experience, and I believe that no one can make informed choices regarding your body for you, because no one else lives your life for you. As someone who identifies as a woman and who is of reproductive age, body autonomy is an essential value of mine. As a therapist, my hope is to help clients empower themselves to make their own choices, about their bodies and their lives overall. Reproductive freedom should be an inherent right for all people, and I will do what I can to advocate for this right.
