My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
A pro-choice therapist is an extension of how I view therapy generally; layers of consent are fundamental to my practice. Every single human has the right to decide what happens within and to their bodies, including the right to make a choice about abortion. A pro-choice therapist understands the complexity of a choice and supports someone before, during, and after a choice is made.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and body autonomy are essential to our whole selves. When any one part of our personhood is dehumanized, it impacts our whole self, our communities, and our systems. As a mental health clinician, I have worked with the truth that our whole bodies, not only "necks-up," impact our mental and emotional wellbeing bidirectionally.
