My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means a number of things. For one, it means that I will respect and protect the reproductive freedom and privacy of all people, including my clients, and will abide by Pro-Choice Therapists’s member agreements. It also means that I believe in providing a therapeutic space that honors every person's agency, values, and right to self-determination. By taking a pro-choice stance, I am committing to ensuring that therapy is a place where all people, experiences, and conversations are welcome. Additionally, being a pro-choice therapist means that I will continue to educate myself about reproductive justice and engage in conversations about the protection of reproductive freedom.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As a human, reproductive freedom and body autonomy are important to me. Abortion must be legal, accessible, and affordable in order to protect the safety, wellbeing, and happiness of all people who can become pregnant. As a clinician, it is my mission to approach all clients with warmth, acceptance, and the feminist belief that each person’s journey, experiences, and perspective are unique in order to help my clients reconnect with their values so that they can navigate life changes and challenges while also reclaiming hope and empowerment. Reproductive freedom and body autonomy are crucial to that goal, especially the aspects of acceptance, client-determined values, hope, and empowerment.
