My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a pro-choice therapist, it's my responsibility to support you in reaching and accepting decisions about your body and your life that are in alignment with your values, beliefs, and context. It's my role to assist you in exploring the meaning and impacts (whatever they are and whatever emotions or life changes they bring about) of any decision you make related to pregnancy and/or parenting.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
We live daily in our bodies; as such, we should get to control and make decisions about them, without coercion, undue influence, or punishment; we don't deserve to suffer from stigma or shame about the decisions we make. We all deserve reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy because deciding whether to be pregnant, to sustain a pregnancy (and determine how to give birth), or to terminate a pregnancy are decisions based on our personal contexts, cultures, values, and needs; no one beside you knows what's best for you.
