My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means that I am dedicated to sitting with you as you make sense of your experience, and to supporting the choices that you make for yourself. I am not invested in you making a particular decision; rather, I am invested in creating space for you to make sense of your choices, in supporting your choices, and in working with the feelings that arise from those choices, whatever they may be.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As a clinician, I believe that therapy is about understanding ourselves deeply so that we can make choices that are attuned to our histories and that reflect our values. If we cannot exercise choice--if we cannot choose what is best for ourselves--then the entire enterprise of therapy is undermined. So I see reproductive freedom and the project of therapy as deeply intertwined.
