My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
It means being pro-whatever choice the clients I serve want or need to make that allows them to embody their autonomy and/or stay as safe and well as possible.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are central to healing from CPTSD and historical trauma, which can make us feel detached, dissociated, and without autonomy. I also believe in reproductive justice, freedom, and autonomy as decolonial—centering our traditional values around our bodies and choices, as well as resisting systemic oppression through choice with our bodies. I also think a lot about the somatic connection to bodily/reproductive autonomy and how it shows up in our ability to access pleasure and/or make choices with our reproductive healthcare.
