My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
It means that I do not judge or discriminate treatment of my clients based on their life decisions, including medical and abortion decsions. It means to be supportive and provide a safe space for clients to explore their current situation or past experiences without fear of judgement or reporting. It means that I can provide accurate information about abortion in NC if they want and need the information and help them connect to resources that can support them.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
It is important to me because body autonomy is highly important to me for everyone to have as a right. Reproductive freedom and body autonomy allows for people to live aligned with their values and their goals for their life and career. It helps to decrease mental health challenges and outcomes. These two things greatly influences people's financial stress (or reduction or it). Maintaining reproductive freedom and body autonomy has strong impact on populations that historically and currently experience oppression and is a way that those in power are able to maintain power and opressive systems. As a woman, it personally is important to me because up until now, I have had a sense of ease in knowing that I can access abortion if I choose and to avoid the impact of having an unplanned child on numerous aspects of my life and theirs. It helps to continue to bring more equality and equity across gender.
