My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a pro-choice therapist, I am a safe person for clients to discuss body autonomy and reproductive health. I am not here to judge, I am here to support my clients in making the best decision for themselves. I consider it my responsibility to ensure that my client has access to current and up to date scientific/medical information and knows how to access professionals to support her decision. A pro-choice therapist is someone who knows the only person who can make decisions about their reproductive health and body is the individual.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are important to me because they are fundamental human rights. It is a human right to be able to exercise control over their own bodies, lives, and futures. This includes their ability to have children or not, and when to have them. Reproductive freedom includes not only access to safe abortion services but also contraception, and comprehensive & inclusive sex education. Without these, individuals would be forced to undergo unwanted pregnancies, undergo unsafe abortions, and face other health risks due to being uneducated. Body autonomy is essential to reproductive freedom because individuals need to be able to make these decisions without fear of coercion or interference from others.
