My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means honoring and respecting the autonomy of each individual to make decisions regarding their own bodies and lives. It means providing resolute support to clients as they navigate their reproductive health choices, free from judgment. Additionally, it means recognizing the bigger picture of how social and economic factors can impact these decisions, and advocating for fairness, justice, and societal change that will better serve all of us.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As a therapist, it's crucial to respect the right of each individual to make decisions about their own bodies and lives. Being pro-choice means supporting clients as they navigate their reproductive health choices without judgment and creating a space where clients feel empowered to explore their options and make decisions that work for them based on their own beliefs and unique circumstances. As a clinician who predominantly works with perinatal women and in maternal mental health, I'm intimately familiar with the vital importance of supporting women through these choices and how important access to reproductive health care is.
