My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a humanist and agnostic atheist, I value science as not only a way to advance medicine, technology, and our understanding of everything, but also as a method to respond to moral and ethical questions. I’m pro-choice both personally and professionally. In my work as a therapist, I can guarantee a safe judgment-free space to process any choice a client is considering.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Mental health is inextricably connected to overall wellbeing. Reproductive freedom and body autonomy are not only basic human rights, but essential to emotional wellness.
When these rights are threatened, fear takes the lead in the decision-making process when determining whether or not to have a child; when to have a child; which birth control method to use; how many children to have; when to terminate a pregnancy for medical reasons or personal reasons.
Birthing people cannot pursue a meaningful and satisfying existence without access to options and the freedom to make decisions about their body in private with the support of their healthcare providers.
