My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
For me, being a pro-choice therapist means that I offer nonjudgmental space for people processing reproductive experiences and decisions. I trust that the people I support are experts on their lives and their needs. I believe my role is to support people in making their own meaning out of their experiences, not to impose my own ideas about what an experience means to someone.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As a trauma therapist, I believe healing often involves reclaiming a sense of agency and a felt sense of safety in our bodies. As a queer person, I have embodied knowledge of the ways that laws restricting bodily autonomy, access to gender affirming care, and access to reproductive health care impact our ability to live freely in the world. As a clinician, I believe that reproductive justice is a necessary condition for our collective healing and liberation. It is an honor to accompany folks in accessing more healing in their bodies and in our world.
