My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro-choice therapist means that I listen non-judgementally and with unconditional positive regard when a client becomes pregnant. When a client is in need of resources for abortion, I will point them in the direction of legitimate sources and educate on the predatory nature of crisis pregnancy centers (prevalent in Missouri and Kansas). Overall, I will support my clients individually based on their needs.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Sexual violence is way more common than most people realize, and working as a therapist opened my eyes to how common the need for abortion is. People have a right to choose what is best for them. Everyone deserves access to abortion, and people who have become pregnant through traumatic means should not be obligated to disclose details of their trauma to access abortion care.
