My Pro-Choice Perspective

What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
To me, being a "pro-choice therapist" means holding space for clients and supporting them in their lived experience, regardless of what the choice or outcome of their pregnancy is. It means providing a supportive, non-judgemental ear as well as accurate and de-stigmatizing information and being able to help clients process any and all feelings that may or may not arise around pregnancy, miscarriage, birth, parenting, and abortion.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I believe that every human being should have the right and freedom to make choices about their body and have access to the means to make choices without barriers and stigma. I have seen, personally and professionally, the mental health impact of having choices around bodily autonomy limited or systemically dismantled. Whether it is legal limitations being placed on gender-affirming healthcare, access to abortion care, or access to non-judgemental sexual health care, restricting bodily autonomy is violent are harmful to clients of all identities. It is so important to me and aligned with my ethics and responsibility as a provider to fight for reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy in any way that I can.
