My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a pro choice therapist to me means supporting clients in their choice to parent or not, birth or not, or pursue pregnancy or not at any stage of life. I want my clients to have access to the full range of reproductive options, ranging from choosing sterilization as a young adult to having a safe and healthy pregnancy with the resources they need to support their families.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
As a social worker by training, I strongly believe in client self-determination, and nothing could be more integral to this than deciding if and when to give birth, parent, or pursue pregnancy. My own infertility process has given me lived experience in the importance of reproductive autonomy, and I want my clients to know I'm with them without judgment, whatever choices they make. Reproductive control is oppression of women and birthing people, and I believe in working towards a more just world where people can access needed health care without judgment or fear.
