My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
To be a pro-choice therapist is to possess an active, ongoing commitment to respecting and supporting the rights and well-being of clients in all aspects of reproductive health. It is to offer non-judgmental support, support with informed decision making, and also looking upstream to engage in advocacy and activism to strive for a more just society in which everyone's bodily autonomy and reproductive freedoms can be protected and respected.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom is important because it supports patient autonomy and informed consent, fundamental ethical principles in both my field and individual value-set. Reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are deeply intertwined with emotional well-being and mental health. Supporting reproductive freedom aligns with promoting mental health and emotional well-being because it enables individuals to plan and manage their lives in ways that best suit their personal, financial, and psychological circumstances and honors everyone's right to self determination.
