My Pro-Choice Perspective

What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As a pro-choice therapist, I believe every client is the expert of their own lives and own reproductive health choices. They know what the best option for all aspects of their own bodies and health is. In a world where this freedom is being threatened, it is my desire and responsibility to show up to support clients in these decisions. Furthermore, I view it as necessary to be loud and explicit about my belief that every person must be allowed to make their own decisions, without interference or pressure, and be affirmed in those choices regardless of cultural or community beliefs. Although I am not immune from culture pressures and stigma, I am committed to supporting clients choosing abortion in all stages of pregnancy and their right to make informed choices in an affirming setting.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
Reproductive freedom and body autonomy mean that we all get to decide what the best choices are for our own reproductive wellbeing. Ultimately, each individual gets to decide whether or not they want a child at any given time, how they want to manage their fertility and reproductive shifts, and how they want to manage sexual health. This also includes gender affirming care and medical issues related to reproductive organs. Folks can all consult with their loved ones and their medical team, but ultimately, they get to control their own choices.
