My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
I believe being a pro-choice therapist means providing a space where individuals know they can come in and share their feelings around any and all choices around their reproductive and personal wellbeing. In my work, I believe that the therapeutic space has room to hold all experiences. Being a pro-choice therapist means acknowledging, holding space, and advocating to dismantle the stigma and systemic barriers around one’s reproductive freedom and body autonomy.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I believe there is a deep connection between self and community in trauma and healing. While my mission is for individuals to take up space and embrace their full selves, it is incredibly harmful to dismiss and neglect the impact of the systems within which we survive. In connecting self and community, I work through a social justice and liberation lens in which reproductive freedom and body autonomy are essential to my work. I believe that every individual should have the choice, ability, and access to make decisions that support the lives that they choose to lead; body autonomy and reproductive freedom are critical to building a liberated world.
