My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
To be a pro-choice clinician means supporting any choice a client believes is best for them. Often, we'll work together to help a client identify the best choices for themselves based on their own values, life circumstances, and goals. Ultimately, my goal as a therapist is to make sure my clients know their options and feel safe to openly explore what feels right for their lives.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
We cannot have freedom if we do not have freedom over our bodies and our choices. As a clinician, my guiding principle is the self-determination and autonomy of my clients. Often, the folks I work with have experienced harmful patterns of power and control in their relationships, and learning to feel safe making choices for themselves is central to our work. Being able to control their career, financial security, health, and whether/when to become a parent is crucial in healing and thriving.
