My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
Being a "pro-choice therapist" means supporting each client's right to choose what happens to their own body and their life. Not only supporting clients during therapy sessions, but also outside of the therapeutic space via voting for pro-choice electeds, marching, donating time and money to pro-choice causes and spaces. We do not provide therapy in a vacuum, and we have a duty to try effect change at other levels as well as one-on-one.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
I know that reproductive freedom and body autonomy are integral to quality of life. They interact with so many other aspects of who we are as a person, as a society. I believe these are basic human needs, and when these are jeopardized in any way (be it abortion restrictions, anti-trans legislation, or dress codes) they can have a negative impact on a person and a community.
