My Pro-Choice Perspective
What being a Pro-Choice Therapist means to me:
As the co-founder and CEO of Pro-Choice Therapists, abortion care is near and dear to my heart, and supporting patients, clients, and therapists with accurate information, resources and empowerment around abortion is a personal passion of mine.
Being a pro-choice therapist means that I understand that abortions are a normal and valid part of a person's reproductive life. I will always support a person's decisions around pregnancy, and will offer politically and medically accurate information about all pregnancy options (abortion, miscarriage, birth, and/or adoption) if requested/appropriate.
As someone who worked in abortion care for over a decade, I've held thousands of hands during abortion procedures and heard countless stories about why people were faced with the decision to terminate both wanted and unwanted pregnancies. I know that people from all walks of life have abortions, and each person's reason is valid. Abortion does not cause mental health issues. The cultural stigma around abortion, and the political environment limiting access to care can cause mental health challenges.
In my heart I know that abortion is freedom.
Why I think bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom are important:
We cannot be free without the right to control our bodies. It is a fundamental human right. Having worked in abortion care for over a decade, I believe deeply in the right to decide if, when and how to become a parent. No one should be forced to become pregnant, carry a pregnancy, or become a parent.
